McArthur’s Yard, Bristol

Contract Period

21 Weeks

McArthur’s Yard is a well known site based on Bristol’s harbourside. The original structure was built in the early 19th century as a malt house. When current owners were looking to redevelop the site, Weaver Demolition were employed as Principal Contractor to carry out the demolition works.

In summary, works comprised of the site clearance, licensed and non-licensed asbestos removal, followed by high-reach and standard mechanical demolition of multiple structures situated within the  site to make way for a new commercial and residential development.

Due to the positioning of the site, consideration had to be given to the neighbouring properties which consisted of the SS Great Britain, Albion Dry Dock as well as a number of  Commercial and Residential Properties. Strict adherence to the projects party wall agreements was fundamental to the successful completion of the project.

As with every project, a full and bespoke set of Risk Assessment and Method Statements (RAMS) were developed in line with site specific and programme requirements to ensure the safe and timely delivery of the project. This large scale project was delivered on time over a period of 21 weeks,

Before work commenced, a number of items were identified by the client that had to be carefully salvaged and stored so that they could be incorporated into the future development of the site. All arisings were segregated prior to leaving site and brick and concrete arisings were crushed to 6F2 specification on site and stockpiled for future reuse.
